Galing Galing, an annual festival celebrating Filipino culture, will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Boise State University Special Events Center. A buffet will be served after the show at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom.
The theme of this seventh annual event is “Motown Showcase.” Tickets are $10 general, $3 students with ID and free for those 5 years and under, and are available at the door or by calling the Cultural Center at (208) 426-5950.
Reflecting the diversity of BARCADA (Boise American Relations Club and Diversity Association), the “Motown Showcase” will be performed by favorite administrators, staff and faculty. The show also features the traditional Filipino tinikling dance, which imitates the movement of the tikling birds as they dodge the traps set by rice farmers. Two dancers skillfully move together while seamlessly dancing between two bamboo poles. This routine is set to the music “Bebot” by the Black Eyed Peas and is a form of modern tinikling.
Parking is free at the Lincoln Garage in any space that is not designated by a sign. Attendees must enter their space number in the payment machine, indicate that they will pay by the hour and then enter the coupon code 09000063.
A portion of this year’s proceeds will support the Bantay Bata 163 Foundation Rescue Relief for victims of the Ondoy tropical storm that hit the Philippines on Sept. 26, forcing thousands out of their homes and creating a virtual lake.
