Boise State University’s Concurrent Enrollment Program Earns National Accreditation

Boise State University’s concurrent enrollment program has received accreditation from the National Alliance for Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP), making Boise State the only public institution in Idaho to receive NACEP accreditation.

NACEP has established 15 standards that cover curriculum, faculty, student assessment, student services and program evaluation.

“Applying for NACEP accreditation and demonstrating compliance is a lengthy and rigorous process,” said Mark Wheeler, dean of Extended Studies. “Boise State met or exceeded every NACEP standard. This speaks volumes for the quality of Boise State’s concurrent enrollment programming at high schools throughout southwestern Idaho.”

Concurrent enrollment is a collaborative partnership between high schools and Boise State to provide college courses for high school students who simultaneously earn high school and college credits for the pre-approved courses. This fall, Boise State offers more than 100 classes in 45 different subjects at 31 high schools.

Boise State’s program is beginning its 11th year and seeking NACEP accreditation was a natural progression as the program continues to grow, according to program director Fabiola Juarez-Coca. More and more students are taking advantage of the opportunity to get an early start on college. About 1,200 students participated in concurrent enrollment courses at Boise State last fall.

Concurrent enrollment offers a wide variety of classes, from art to biology, foreign language to political science. Credit from these general academic classes can be applied to any degree a student chooses upon entering college. The credits are transferable to all Idaho colleges and universities and most institutions outside of the state.
