Boise State Career Center to Assess Workforce Readiness with New Survey

February 7th, 2012  |  Published in Boise State News, Research News

Boise State University is conducting a research project aimed at identifying the skills and competencies needed by Treasure Valley and Southern Idaho employers. Over the next couple of weeks, thousands of Idaho employers will be invited to take a survey where they can offer input on the challenges of hiring employees for new or existing businesses.

“As we make our way around the area talking with employers and professional organizations, we often hear that employers are challenged in expanding or are reluctant to start new ventures in our area because of an ‘under qualified workforce,’” said Debbie Kaylor, Career Center director. “This survey is designed to get the details we need to better understand and address this concern.”

Researchers will identify the skills and competencies regional employers will need in the near future to sustain and advance economic development within the greater Treasure Valley and Southern Idaho. Focus is on the professional skills that will be required by new college graduates to be able to join and be successful in organizations.

The Career Center has partnered with more than 20 organizations in gathering input for this project, including local chambers of commerce, the Department of Labor, school districts and professional associations. Partner organizations also will help with distribution of the survey.
