About the IBO: The Idaho Bird Observatory is a Boise State University
program founded in 1993 by Greg Kaltenecker, who earned a master’s degree in
raptor biology at Boise State, and Marc Bechard, a Boise State biology
professor, after it was discovered that the Boise Ridge is a major bird
migration flyway. The ridge above the city of Boise supports one of the
largest known concentrations of migrating raptors and migrating neo-tropical
songbirds in the West, according to Kaltenecker, IBO director. The IBO is
funded through donations to the Boise State University Foundation and other
grants and provides many educational, research and volunteer opportunities.
Bald Eagle Days is presented by the Idaho Bird Observatory in cooperation
with Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Ada County, and Golden Eagle Audubon
Society. Other organizations involved include the Bureau of Land Management,
MK Nature Center, Foothills Learning Center, Birds of Prey Northwest, Idaho
Rivers United, Idaho Conservation League, and the Idaho Environmental
Education Association.
