News Release COLLEGE NEWS RELEASE / January 8, 2008 Northwest Energy Innovation Summit Set Jan. 12-14 in Boise The College of Business and Economics at Boise State University will co-sponsor the Northwest Energy Innovation Summit Jan. 12-14 in Boise. The conference will cover global issues related to energy. The summit is being organized by Boise businessman Mark Rivers, who recently developed Boise’s small business incubator, the WaterCooler. Conference sessions will be held Jan. 12-13 at the Boise Centre on the Grove, and the summit will wrap up on Jan. 14 with an energy entrepreneur showcase at the Fulton Street Theatre. Companies from throughout the Northwest that are on the leading edge of innovation in energy will be highlighted. Summit speakers will include: — James Woolsey, former CIA director and renowned energy expert — Steve Bolze, president, GE Power and Energy — Woodrow Clark II, co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts related to climate change — Jon Arnold, managing director, Microsoft — Michael Butler, chairman/CEO, Cascadia Capital — David Chen, chairman, Oregon Innovation Council — Christine Gulbranson, director, Kauffman Foundation Other organizations that will be represented include: National Renewable Energy Laboratory, National Science Foundation, Ernst & Young, Colorado Center for Biorefining and Biofuels, OVP Venture Partners, Academy of Science and the Idaho National Laboratory. The summit will focus on energy impacts, trends and applications to the American Northwest; highlights and discussion of innovation in the energy sector such as new technology, resources and ideas emerge; and the marriage of venture capital, technology transfer and public investment as we grow a new generation of energy entrepreneurs. The goal is to leverage the growing stature of the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West as an international economic force and to bring further stature and engagement to the area’s potential for growth in the energy arena. A principle goal of the conference is to develop an improved regional collaboration among stakeholders, public and private, on energy challenges and to harness the power of breakthrough thinking and initiatives to create needed solutions. The summit is open to the public. The fee is $200 for an all-access pass that includes two breakfasts and two lunches.
