Boise State University Foundation Phonathon Starts Jan. 18 with Emphasis on Dollars for Scholars

Alumni and friends of Boise State University can expect calls beginning Jan. 18 asking for their support during the semiannual phonathon that is emphasizing the need for student scholarship funds.

The ‘Dollars for Scholars’ program is designed to bolster funding for student scholarships due to the downturn of the financial markets. The deadline is Feb. 20 to help replenish scholarship awards that have experienced a significant drop in endowment earnings. The Boise State University Foundation currently has about 850 student scholarships through endowed accounts. ‘Dollars for Scholars’ will provide much needed funds for scholarships that will be distributed by the Financial Aid Office in the 2009-2010 academic year.

The spring phonathon has been moved up two months this year to address this specific student scholarship need. Every year the Boise State Foundation conducts a series of important telephone campaigns during the spring and fall semesters to raise funds for Boise State University. An e-mail campaign has been added this time asking for online donations.

Phonathon callers aim to contact thousands of people to update them on university news and events while encouraging them to make an annual donation to Boise State. Gifts made through the phonathon are tax deductible. Last year, about 2,800 individuals pledged nearly $300,000 in support of the university.

If you do not receive a call but would like to learn more about giving opportunities, visit www.boisestate.edu and click ‘Dollars for Scholars.’
