What: Engineering Extravaganza for local elementary school students
When: January 27-29
Where: Boise State University College of Engineering

Hundreds of Treasure Valley school kids will gather at Boise State University Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the College of Engineering’s annual Engineering Extravaganza. The three-day event involves exciting, engaging, hands-on activities designed to introduce kids to engineering concepts and inspire further curiosity and study.

About 600 fifth- and sixth-graders will have a chance to build edible aquifers, explore miniature vehicle mechanics, learn how a hydro turbine works and about the wonders of Segway technology, bridge designing and wind tunnels.

The Extravaganza kicks off with an interactive workshop on rocketry by Idaho National Laboratory engineer and inventor Kevin Young, also known as “Rocket Man.”

Registered schools will participate in two groups each day of the Extravaganza. Group A will participate in the rocketry workshop from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and the hands-on activities from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Group B will participate in the rocketry workshop from 11 a.m.-noon and the hands-on activities from 12:30-2 p.m. Locations vary by activity.
