Idaho Landscapes, A Scholarly Magazine Featuring Stories of Interest about Idaho, is now Available

The first edition of Idaho Landscapes: History, Science and Art was recently released by The Center for Idaho History and Politics, Boise State University, Idaho State University and the Idaho State Historical Society. The new biannual full-color magazine is the only scholarly publication of its kind featuring stories of interest about Idaho.

Idaho Landscapes continues the proud tradition of Idaho Yesterdays, the state’s journal of historical record that was founded in 1957. While Idaho Landscapes continues the award-winning design of its predecessor, the magazine’s subject matter has been expanded to include peer-reviewed essays in history, science and art, and juried photography about the human nature of Idaho and the West. Idaho Yesterdays will now be published exclusively as an online journal.

The inaugural issue of Idaho Landscapes features essays about the 1925 murder of Charley Deveney in Pocatello, cuneiform tablets in Idaho, author Vardis Fisher, the East Snake Plain Aquifer and other topics. Brightly designed and written in lively language, the full-color publication also features some of Idaho’s best landscape photography.

Boise State contributors include Todd Shallat, one of three editors; feature writer Tom Trusky, a professor of English; science writer Larry Burke and photographer Glenn Oakley, both formerly of Boise State News Services.

Published with support from Boise State’s Division of Research and the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs, Idaho Landscapes will be distributed to 640 schools in all 44 Idaho counties. Copies are available for $8 at the Boise State University Bookstore, Trip Taylor Booksellers in Boise, at museums across the state or by calling (208) 426-1574.
