Boise State Cheerleaders Win National Competition
The Boise State University cheerleaders are national champions.
The squad of 18 women and three men took first place in the Small Coed
Division of the USA College Cheerleading Nationals yesterday in Las Vegas.
It was the Boise State cheerleading squad’s first national title after
finishing second in 2007 and fourth in 2006 and 2005. The Broncos also
finished eighth in 2003, the first year they competed in the college
nationals.
The 2008 team entered the competition’s final round with the highest
composite score in its division, the equivalent of earning a first seed in
an athletic tournament.
The team members along with head coach Julie Stevens and assistant coach
Jonathan Wood will be recognized at the Nevada-Boise State men’s basketball
game this Thursday evening in Taco Bell Arena and display their national
championship trophy and banner during halftime activities.
