Anthropology Speaker to Address Human Dietary Adaptations at
March 3 Lecture
Anne Katzenberg, archaeology professor at the University of Calgary in
British Columbia will speak as part of the Boise State University Department
of Anthropology Lecture Series at 2 p.m. Monday, March 3, in the Student
Union Hatch C Ballroom. Katzenberg will speak on “Hunter-Gatherer Dietary
Adaptations in Northern Regions.” The event is free and open to the public.
The presentation will consider the broad spectrum of potential human dietary
adaptations, with a focus on traditional diets of northern people.
Katzenberg has been involved with paleodiet research on Neolithic and early
Bronze Age populations from the region around Lake Baikal, Siberia, for 15
years.
Katzenberg‘s research interests include human adaptation to diet and
disease. Most of her work involves applications of stable isotope analysis
to determine past diet. Examples include studies of the adoption of maize in
southern Ontario, determining the importance of freshwater resources in the
diet and the use of nitrogen isotopes to determine the timing of weaning in
past populations.
