Boise State's Diverse Perspectives Film Series Features 'Arusi
Persian Wedding' on Feb. 17
The Diverse Perspectives Film Series at Boise State University will feature
a screening of “Arusi Persian Wedding” from 5:30-7 p.m. Feb. 17 in the
Student Union Hatch B Ballroom. Admission is free and open to the public.
Parking is available for $1 per hour in the Lincoln parking structure on the
corner of University Avenue and Lincoln Street.
Filmmaker Marjan Tehrani chronicles her brother’s journey to Iran, their
father’s birthplace, as he travels with his American wife to have a
traditional Persian wedding ceremony and explore his lost heritage. Weaving
together historical footage that illuminates the complex history of
America’s relationship with Iran and the young couple’s personal story,
“Arusi Persian Wedding” goes behind the curtain of political tension to
offer a rare glimpse of both modern and traditional Iran.
Following the film, Azam Houle — a native-born Iranian who spent most of her
teens in Iran and who has lived in the United States for nearly 30 years —
will talk about tradition, ceremonies and culture clash as experienced by
Iranians visiting or immigrating to America. She will answer questions and
lead an audience discussion.
“Arusi Persian Wedding” also will air on Idaho Public Television at 10 p.m.
March 20. The Diverse Perspectives Film Series is presented by the Boise
State Cultural Center, Idaho Public Television and the Independent
Television Service.
