Thirty vocal jazz choirs from the Treasure Valley and beyond will be on campus Feb. 19-20 for the 18th annual Boise State University Vocal Jazz Festival, held in the Student Union Building.

The festival begins with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom featuring jazz vocalist Sunny Wilkinson. Wilkinson performs regularly at jazz festivals and clubs across the country and is assistant professor of jazz voice at Michigan State University. Her latest CD, released by Chase Music Group, is a duo project with Los Angeles-based pianist Tom Garvin, “A Gentle Time — When Sunny Meets Tom.” Her other recordings include “High Wire” for Chartmaker, “Alegria” for Hibrite, and “Sunny Wilkinson” for Positive Music. She will be joined onstage by Boise’s Chuck Smith and the New Trio Plus. Tickets to the Wilkinson concert are $5 per person at the door.

Friday events run from 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. in the Student Union. Wilkinson and Smith will join Boise State music alumni Jim Graves and Dan Costello as they listen to the 30 junior high, middle school and high school performing groups. After each group performs, they will receive valuable critiques from the panel of experts as well as recordings of their performances.
