Inaugural Energy Policy Institute Summit at Boise State University March 12

Idaho’s Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) and Office of Energy Resources are sponsoring the first Energy Policy Institute (EPI) Summit March 12 at Boise State University’s new Stueckle Sky Center on the West side of Bronco Stadium. Admission is free, and online registration is available by visiting http://www.boisestate.edu/energypolicyinstitute and clicking on “Events.”

As part of CAES, the EPI is made up of policy researchers and educators from the four CAES institutions: Boise State, Idaho State University, the University of Idaho and Idaho National Laboratory. Its inaugural summit is dedicated to prompting discussion and identification of current and future energy challenges and opportunities facing the region. The public is invited to join state and local legislators, researchers, policy experts, energy practitioners and students in learning more about Idaho’s energy challenges from diverse perspectives.

Speakers and topics for the March 12 event include:
  • John Grossenbacher (keynote speaker), director of Idaho National Laboratory

  • Paul Kjellander, director of the Idaho Office of Energy Resources: Future Idaho Energy Development Challenges

  • Marsha Smith, Idaho Public Utilities commissioner: Challenges in Regulatory Energy Policy

  • Jerry Benson, chief operating officer of the Utah Transit Authority: Policy Nexus of Energy and Transportation: Challenges & Rewards

  • Constance White, director of the Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System: Identification of Renewables & the Challenges of Variable Resources

  • Richard Walje, president of Rocky Mountain Power: Challenges from an Electricity Industry Perspective

  • Senator Kate Kelly and Representative Eric Anderson, Idaho State Legislature Interim Committee on Energy, Environment and Technology: Energy Challenges from a State Perspective
