Boise State University Music, Theatre Arts Departments Presents Gilbert and Sullivan's 'The Gondoliers'

The Boise State University departments of Music and Theatre Arts will present Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic “The Gondoliers” at 7:30 p.m. March 14-15 and 2 p.m. March 16 at the Student Union Special Events Center. Tickets are $12 general and $10 non-Boise State students, alumni, military and seniors at the door or at the Student Union Info Desk. Full-time Boise State students, faculty and staff receive one free ticket.

“The Gondoliers” is the funny tale of two just-married Venetian gondoliers who are informed by the Grand Inquisitor that one of them has become king of “Barataria,” but only their foster mother — who is abroad — knows which one. They leave their wives behind and head to Barataria to rule jointly until their foster mother can be interviewed.

Things get more complicated when it is discovered that the real king was wed in infancy to the beautiful daughter of the Spanish duke of Plaza Toro, making him a bigamist — meanwhile, his long-lost wife is in love with a common servant. When the young Spaniard and the two Venetian wives show up wanting to know which one of them is queen, comedy ensues.
