Delivered by Alok Bhushan, a professor at Idaho State University and the

co-hosted by Boise State’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the
Idaho Academy of Science (IAS). It is free and open to the public and is
part of the IAS’s 50th anniversary meeting being held on the Boise State and
College of Western Idaho campuses March 27-29.
A public reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. with Bhushan’s talk beginning
at 7 p.m.
Cancer has recently overtaken heart disease as the leading cause of death in
the United States for people under the age of 85 and is the second leading
cause of death overall. Because of the impact of cancer on national health,
the National Cancer Institute has set the goal of “eliminating the suffering
and death due to cancer” by 2015.
The IAS was organized in 1958 to further the cause of science and science
education in Idaho. The IAS seeks to improve the effectiveness of science
education in Idaho, and to promote public understanding and appreciation of
the sciences and applied technology in the modern world. It is the only
statewide organization in Idaho that embraces all scientific disciplines.
