42 Idaho High School Juniors Receive $1,000 Scholarships Through Boise State Capital Scholars Program

Boise State University has awarded 42 Idaho high school juniors with $1,000 renewable scholarships based on academic achievements for matriculation to Boise State. They were eligible for scholarships with their participation in the Boise State Capital Scholars program on Tuesday (April 8). The scholarship fund is endowed by sales proceeds from the Boise State Bookstore.

Recipients visited the Boise State campus from throughout the state including Arco, Boise, Buhl, Caldwell, Castleford, Coeur d’Alene, Eagle, Grangeville, Idaho Falls, Kuna, Lewiston, Meridian, Mountain Home, Nampa and Pocatello.

The Boise State Capital Scholars program has completed its fourth year with a total of 212 scholarship recipients.

Selection is based on college entrance examination scores and class rankings. All Idaho high school juniors who score in the top 10 percent of the ACT, SAT or PSAT and rank in the top 10 percent of their high school class were recognized as Boise State Capital Scholars, but they had to attend Tuesday’s event to receive their scholarship certificate.

The program included a welcome from Craig Hemmens, director of Honors College; teaching demonstrations with professors Eric Landrum (psychology), John Bieter (history), Greg Hampikian (biology) and Owen McDougal (chemistry); tours of campus featuring the music program, College of Engineering, Honors College, campus housing and the Interactive Learning Center; a reception with the deans; and the awards banquet with President Bob Kustra as the keynote speaker.
