Two poets will give readings as part of the Boise State University MFA Reading Series: Andrew Joron will speak at 7:30 p.m. April 11, and Kevin Kiely will read at 7:30 p.m. May 2. Both readings will be in the Student Union Farnsworth Room and are free and open to the public.

Joron initially wrote as a science fiction poet, but after publishing “Science Fiction” in 1992, his work moved towards late surrealism and textual poetry. He is the author of several works, including “The Cry at Zero: Selected Prose,” “Neo-Surrealism: Or, The Sun At Night,” “Fathom,” which was one of the Village Voice’s top 25 books of 2003, “The Removes: The Outside House Series,” and “Terminal Velocities.” Joron also translated the Marxist-Utopian philosopher Ernst Bloch’s literary essays.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Joron grew up in Stuttgart, Germany; Lowell, Mass.; and Missoula, Mont. He majored in history and philosophy of science at the University of California at Berkeley. Joron continues to reside in Berkeley, where he is a freelance bibliographer and indexer.

Kiely, born in Northern Ireland, attended the University of Iowa. He has traveled, lived, and worked in Europe and the United States. He has published plays, biographies and poetry, including “Breakfast with Sylvia,” “Plainchant for a Sundering,” “Children of No Importance,” “Multiple Indiscretions,” “Mere Mortals,” “Pieta” and “Quintesse.”

In addition, Kiely has book reviewed for the Irish Examiner, “Irish Studies Review,” “Honest Ulsterman,” “Fortnight,” “Books Ireland,” “Poetry Ireland Review” and the “Irish Book Review.” His recent poems have been published in “Anvil,” “Criterion,” “The Belle,” “Edinburgh Review,” “The Poetry Ireland Review,” “The Democrat Arts Page,” and many more.

Kiely is currently Boise State’s Fulbright scholar. He is completing a Ph.D. in poetry.
