Students Take Home President's Writing Awards
The committee for the Boise State University President’s Writing Awards has
announced the contest’s 2008 winners. The committee received entries from
across the curriculum, and the number of entries was up 20 percent this
year. The following students will receive their awards during an event on
April 24:
• Personal Essay: Toby Reynolds, first place for “It Never Leaves You”; Anna
Demetriades, second place for “Ascension.”
• Critical Analysis: Erica Martz, first place for “Redefining Pioneers:
Gender, Racial Identity and Place in Pearl Cleage’s ‘Flyin’ West’ ”; Jake
Lutz, second place for “An Observation of Cruelty in Alden Nowlan’s ‘The
Bull Moose.’ ”
• Research-Based: Vivianne Sanchez, first place for “The Construction of
Poblano Identity in Colonial Art and Architecture: Talavera Pottery and
Cathedral Architecture in Puebla, Mexico, 16th-18th Centuries”; Matthew
Mayer, second place for “Binary and Ternary Complexes Involving Small
Molecules and Carbonyl Reductase.”
• First Year Writing: Viktoriya Yugay, first place for “Personal Bubble”;
Brenda Revard, second place for “Hiding Ourselves.”
• Multilingual First Year Writing: Soichiro Fujimori, first place for
“Living On”; Liga Spjute, second place for “One More Day.”
