This Week at Boise State
The following are upcoming events at Boise State University for the week of
May 4-10. Please note that all events are subject to change. For updated

EVENTS OF SPECIAL NOTE:
Cinco de Mayo Celebration. See May 4 for more details.
EXHIBITIONS:
Through May 6. “Punch: BFA Thesis Exhibition.” Visual Arts Center
Galleries 1 and 2. “Punch” features works by senior undergraduate students,
representing the culmination of years of study in fine arts. The exhibition
includes drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, video, design and
illustration. Free. For more information, call 426-3994.
Art Exhibit Featuring Work of High School Students. Hispanic Cultural
Center Art Gallery, 315 Stampede Drive in Nampa. Participating high schools
have selected the best artworks by their Art I and Art II students for
inclusion in the juried exhibition. Some of the participating students
enrolled in the art classes are also gaining university credits through

June 6. 29th Annual Idaho Watercolor Society Juried Exhibition.
Reception from 6-7:30 p.m. June 6. Student Union Gallery. Free parking
available in the Library Lot for reception. This exhibition highlights
selected watercolor paintings from member artists around the state of Idaho.
Sunday, May 4
Cinco de Mayo Celebration. Student Union Patio. 2-8 p.m. Celebrating
a day early, the event features performers, musicians, a car show, an art
show and a Miss Cinco de Mayo pageant. Presented by Organizacion de

Critical Mass and the Academy of St. Giles. Morrison Center Recital
Hall. 4:30 p.m. The Academy of St. Giles, directed by Joseph Baldassarre,
and the Chamber Singers, directed by Bruce Browne, present a Claudio
Monteverdi concert. $15 general, $10 seniors and students, free to Boise

Concerto-Aria Competition Winners Concert. Morrison Center Main Hall.
7:30 p.m. Featuring the music of Shostakovich, Gershwin, Hubay, Mozart,
Moore, Ibert and Bellini. Also featuring Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” $5
general, $3 seniors, free to students of all ages and Boise State faculty

“I Love a Piano.” Morrison Center. 7:30 p.m. “I Love a Piano” is an
enchanting new musical journey spanning seven decades of American history as

Q’eros documentary: “From Grief and Joy We Sing.” Special Events
Center. 6:30 p.m. Q’eros is a documentary that explores the Q’eros’ musical
rituals, to educate and promote respect for indigenous cultures. Presented

Trombone Choir and Clarinet Choir. Morrison Center Recital Hall. $5

Steve Hanks LDSSA Lecture. LDS Institute building, 1929 University
Drive. 12:15 p.m. Hanks is the CEO of Washington Group International. Each
lecture ranges from 35 to 40 minutes with refreshments served afterward.

“The Eye.” Special Events Center. 7 p.m. A woman who has lost her
eyesight has been given the opportunity to receive a pair of new eyes. After
the transplant she begins to wonder if she was better off blind. Rated

“An Evening with Tony Bennett.” Morrison Center. 8 p.m. This concert
benefits the Children’s Home Society of Idaho. Tony Bennett is a legendary
artist who touches the hearts and souls of audiences. $75-$500 by calling

“Bravo Broadway! A Pops Special!” Morrison Center. Pre-show lecture,
7 p.m.; concert at 8:15 p.m. Presented by the Boise Philharmonic. Featuring
soprano Anne Runofsson, tenor Gary Mauer and the full Boise Philharmonic

May 10-12
Clay and Fire Sale. Visual Arts Center Galleries 1 and 2. 10 a.m-5
p.m. Featuring ceramics created by Boise State students, professors and
alumni, this sale features creative works in a variety of styles ¬¬–– just
in time for Mother’s Day gifts. Proceeds benefit the Visiting Artists in
Ceramics program.

Thursday, May 15
“Definitely, Maybe.” Special Events Center. 7 p.m. A man in the midst
of a divorce finds himself explaining to his daughter his past love life.
Her questions spark feelings that just might reunite him with a past or
present love. Rated PG-13. For more information, call 426-3701.
Saturday, May 17
Graduation Celebration Breakfast. Taco Bell Arena, outside entrance
#3. 8-9:30 a.m. The Celebration features free breakfast, music, and a last
chance prep station. Graduates and their families are encouraged to stop by
before the ceremony. For information call the Boise State Alumni Association
at 426-1698.
Spring Commencement. Taco Bell Arena. 10 a.m. This event will bring
the university together for a traditional ceremony including the
processional and recessional of candidates, individual recognition of each
person and hooding of the doctoral candidates. Astronaut and teacher Barbara
Morgan will receive an honorary Ph.D. Morgan also will be the featured
speaker for the ceremony. Morgan participated in the Teacher in Space
program as the backup to Christa McAuliffe for the ill-fated mission of
Space Shuttle Challenger. She later trained as a mission specialist for
NASA. Boise State will broadcast the ceremony live on the Web for those
individuals who cannot attend in person.
Wednesday, May 21
Coach Chris Petersen Lecture. Bronco Football Complex on the south
side of Bronco Stadium. 7 p.m. The special lecture is the final event of the
spring season for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Boise State.
Those interested should call 426-1709 to reserve a seat. Free parking also
will be provided. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a
membership-based program for the adult community. Petersen’s lecture is free
and open to the public but seating is limited. For more information, visit

May 21-25. Cirque du Soleil’s “Saltimbanco.” Taco Bell Arena. After
traveling the world and playing in more then 74 cities on five continents
since its conception in 1992, “Saltimbanco” returns to North America.
“Saltimbanco” is embarking on a tour of more than 40 arenas across Canada

Idaho Dance Theatre. Morrison Center Stage II. 7:30 p.m. Also May 24
