What: e-Day free engineering camp for Treasure Valley youth
When: 9:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4:15 p.m., Saturday
Where: College of Engineering, Boise State University
The next generation of engineers will come from all over the Treasure Valley
Saturday to participate in e-Day, a free, hands-on exploration of
engineering hosted by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers student
chapter from Boise State University’s College of Engineering.
Fifty students in grades 7-10 from Wilder, Nampa, Caldwell, Boise, Meridian,
Parma and Notus are signed up for five fun and educational activities
ranging from experimenting with robotics to building edible aquifers. The
diverse group of students will be interacting with engineers and other
industry representatives from Micron Technology, Hewlett Packard, PCS
Edventures and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers professional
and student chapters.
The hope is that even a day’s dose of engineering will plant seeds for
future study or work in engineering, science, math or technology. In order
to extend the opportunity beyond Boise, the College of Engineering is
providing free transportation for the students from Wilder, Marsing, Nampa
and Caldwell.
Activities will run from 9:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4:15 p.m. Boise State graduate
and Motive Power mechanical engineer Yvette Barrios will start the day off
with a motivational presentation.
To set up interview, photo and video opportunities, contact student support
coordinator Leandra Aburusa at 870-3633. For more information on e-Day and
