What: Boise State University students vie for cash in business plan
competition
When and Where: 2:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, Boise State
University Student Union Hatch Ballroom
Who: Kent Neupert, event organizer and director of Boise State’s
Center for Entrepreneurship
About 30 Boise State students will have two minutes each to share their
ideas for a new product, service or company and wow a panel of judges who
will award cash prizes totaling more than $3,500 during Boise State’s first
annual Elevator Pitch competition on Friday, April 17.
Boise State professor and event organizer Kent Neupert says 10 undergraduate
and 20 graduate students have come up with a variety of viable ideas that
they will present to a panel of investors, entrepreneurs and business
experts. Neupert has moved a mock “opportunity elevator” around campus for
the past few months to entice students from a variety of disciplines to
compete. Winners will be selected for best technology, best green idea and
best overall pitch.
The Elevator Pitch competition is the first official activity of Boise
State’s Center for Entrepreneurship. The competition runs from 1:30-3:30
p.m. and is free and open to the public. It will be preceded from noon-1
p.m. by a presentation from entrepreneur and Boise State alumnus Clay Young,
co-founder and CEO of Inovus Solar and co-founder of ProClarity. Young will
discuss challenges for entrepreneurs. Members of the media are welcome to
attend any time, but will be sure to catch the students in action between
2:30 and 3:30 p.m.
