EXHIBITIONS:
Through May 5. “See Horse: BFA Thesis Exhibition.” Visual Arts Center Galleries 1 and 2. This exhibition showcases a wide range of works displaying the breadth and depth of Boise State University’s Art Department. This stunning body of art features 16 BFA degree candidates and several disciplines of art. Free. For more information, contact Kirsten Furlong at 426-3994.

May 9-May 11. Clay and Fire Sale. Visual Arts Gallery 1. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Discover a unique gift for Mom or anyone else on your list. Held each spring and fall for more than 35 years, the Clay and Fire Sale has become a tradition for many in the Treasure Valley. The sale features hundreds of high quality ceramic pieces, ranging from elegant to exotic, made by students and alumni. The Devil’s Garden Inaugural Iron Pour. Visual Arts Collective, 3638 Osage St. Garden City. Noon-dusk. The Boise Sculptors Guild is pouring molten iron into molds. For a fee you can design your own iron plaque. This event features a live performance by The Juju Tribe African Drum Group; refreshments and T-shrits available for purchase. Free. All proceeds benefit the Boise Sculptors Guild, an non-profit organization. For more information, call 426-8297.

Church Night. Cathedral of the Rockies, First United Methodist Church, 11th and Hays. 7 p.m. Musical performances include more than 200 instrumentalists and choirs from churches throughout the Treasure Valley. Boise State University Symphony Orchestra. “Brigadoon.” Morrison Center. 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6-9, 2 p.m. May 9. A mysterious Scottish village appears every 100 years and as long as no one leaves, the town is safe. A Night of One Acts. Danny Peterson Theater, Morrison Center. 7:30 p.m. The Boise State University’s Theatre Majors Association presents a premiere of a new play, “The Eighth Day,” by Boise State Student Evan Sesek and “Sexual Perversity,” by David Mamet. Boise Chamber Music Series Ying Quartet. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 8 p.m. The Boise Chamber Music Series will conclude with a performance by the Ying Quartet. The Ying Quartet occupies a unique position of prominence in the classical music world, combining brilliantly communicative performances with a fearlessly imaginative view of chamber music in today’s world. The concert in Boise will open with Felix Mendelssohn’s “Quartet in E-flat Major, Opus 12.” Bela Bartok’s “Sixth String Quartet” will follow and will close with Antonin Dvorak’s “Quartet in A-flat Major, Opus 105.”

Spring Fling is annual event that features food vendors, graffiti walls, bounce houses and concerts starring Reel Big Fish and other live bands. Wilderness First Responder Class. Meet at Outdoor Programs Office. Registration continues until 7 p.m. May 1. Take the industry standard for wilderness medical training. The course topics include (but are not limited to): wound management, realigning fractures and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, allergies, hypo- and hyperthermia, gastrointestinal distress, infections, cardiac and respiratory conditions, patient monitoring and long-term management and care. All attendees must finish an online component prior to the course. Wilderness First Responder costs $495 for members and $515 for non-members. “Modern Physics Experiments: from Simple to Sophisticated” Workshop. Multipurpose Building Room 404. Registration deadline is May 15. Richard Reimann will lead this workshop for high school teachers who teach physics or a related science. A science kit will be provided for the teachers to keep. The two-day workshop will cover a variety of modern physics experiments that can be illustrated simply and performed with modest equipment. Results are refined using more sophisticated apparatus and related to current application and research. $90. “Seasons and Thyme” Spring Concert. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. The Boise Choristers include women from all over the Treasure Valley, directed by Karma Ellsworth and accompanied by Gail Borup. This year’s program ranges from classics by Handel, Haydn and Debussy to traditional Shaker melodies, Broadway show tunes and various folk songs. The final set will remind the audience that “to everything there is a season” with familiar songs that bring to mind the four seasons. Patrick Scott, a 2008-2009 scholarship recipient, will join the Choristers and play selections from his senior recital performance. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted for Boise State University music scholarships. For more information, call 426-3980.

Job Search Boot Camp. Jordan Ballroom A and B. 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. The Job Search Boot Camp is open to Boise State juniors, seniors and alumni. The cost is $5 for those who graduated in fall 2008 or who will graduate in spring and summer 2009 and $10 for all other alumni. Seating is limited, but an RSVP e-mailed to career@boisestate.edu will hold a space until April 30, when all unpaid reservations will be released for others to purchase.
