BOISE STATE RADIO RELEASE/August 12, 2008

‘The Story’ Added to Boise State Radio Programming

Boise State Radio, KBSX 91.5, will add one new program and change its lineup on two familiar programs beginning Sept. 1. “This American Life” will move from 9 a.m. Fridays to noon Saturdays. “Car Talk” will move from 10 a.m. Fridays to 4 p.m. Sundays. Finally, “The Story” will join the lineup at 9 a.m. each weekday.

Hosted by Dick Gordon, “The Story” brings listeners the news through first-person accounts. The live program is passionate, personal, immediate and relevant, focusing on the news where it changes lives and causing listeners to stop and re-think.

“The Story” brings together ordinary and extraordinary people who can provide perspectives on the news and inspire conversation and understanding. Recent shows have included:

  • When the Beltway was abuzz with exposés of prisoner torture, “The Story” talked with a man who told how torture by police made his politics more radical, and with a government agent confronted with validating evidence obtained from uncooperative witnesses.
  • When the morning news reported on a Supreme Court nominee’s confirmation, “The Story” talked to 20-somethings, 60-somethings and teen parents about their changing views on the right to choose.
  • When the U.S. Senate voted on education reform, “The Story” went to school to hear what reform would mean to teachers and students, and sat in on a class with author and teacher Frank McCourt to hear how he inspires students.

Each program also encourages listeners to share their own stories on that day’s topic, to be featured later in the week.

Gordon, former host of “The Connection,” was a war correspondent and back-up host for the CBC’s “This Morning.” Senior Producer Greg Kelly is an award-winning radio and television producer whose work has been heard and seen in more than 25 countries.
