Boise State Graduate College Provides Customized Information for Potential Students

Those who are considering attending graduate school at Boise State University have a new way to learn about its graduate programs. The Graduate College now offers a customized electronic brochure delivered instantly from its Web site to interested students.

The e-brochure was developed as a recruiting tool for the university’s graduate programs. Boise State offers nearly 100 master’s degrees, graduate certificates or Ph.D.s. Through the e-brochure, prospective students receive information targeted only at the graduate programs that interest them and at other aspects of the university they select. It is sent as a colorful electronic file moments after a prospective student submits a request.

“We hope that the information and links found in the e-brochure will keep students engaged and interested in Boise State, and that ultimately they will select the university for their graduate work,” said Al Dufty, associate dean of the Graduate College.

All students who request an e-brochure provide contact information that is sent automatically to the appropriate graduate program coordinators, who then can follow-up with students. This personal contact is just as important as the e-brochure itself, if not more so, in recruiting students into a graduate program, Dufty said.

Since the program was launched about a month ago, more than 400 e-brochures have been delivered to individuals in 21 countries. Given that summer is usually a slow time for recruiting students because they are either already committed for fall 2008 or aren’t yet thinking about fall 2009, Dufty said the level of response “is quite remarkable and portends great things once the recruiting season begins in earnest.”
