Statement from Boise State University President Bob Kustra:
“On behalf of the students, staff and faculty, I am deeply saddened by the
apparent loss of a long-time Boise State University professor in the tragic
fire in southeast Boise last night. Mary Ellen Ryder was beginning her 20th
year of teaching this fall as an associate professor in the Department of
English, teaching courses in linguistics. A tentative identification has
been made by the coroner’s office and we are awaiting final confirmation.
“As a teacher, she has spread the joy of learning and discovery to countless
students. She will be missed as a vital member of our campus community. Our
thoughts are with her husband, Peter, and their families and friends.
“In this difficult time, please note that university counseling services are
available for anyone by calling 426-1601.
