BOISE STATE NEWS RELEASE / August 27, 2008
Boise State Campus Community Affected by the
Southeast Boise fires
Today, Wednesday, Aug. 27, the campus community is invited to gather in an
unstructured meeting at 3:40 p.m. in Jordan A at the Student Union Building
to support each other, ask questions, and learn about available support
services as they grieve the death of Mary Ellen Ryder, Associate Professor
of Linguistics in Boise State’s English Department.
Memorial services are also being planned with dates and times to be
announced later. A student scholarship fund has been started in the name of
Mary Ellen Ryder. Contributions can be made through the Boise State
University Foundation in the Capitol Village office or by calling 426-3276.
Our thoughts are also with a number of other displaced families, including
employee Lynda Robinson, who lost her home in the fire. She has been a Boise
State employee since 1999 and currently works in the Department of
Sociology. There are several opportunities for Boise State faculty and staff
to help those affected by the devastating Southeast Boise fires.
Financial donations can be received on campus for the Red Cross, Idaho
Disaster Relief Fund. The Red Cross is assisting families with contributions
from this fund. Red Cross donation canisters are located at the Student
Union Information Desk, Registrar’s Office on the first floor of the
Administration Building and Parking and Transportation Offices. Collections
will be taken until Sept. 3 during regular business hours.
Clothing, blankets and linen donations can also be received at the Student
Union Information Desk, Administration Building First Floor and the Parking
and Transportation Offices. These donations collected through Sept. 3 will
be given to the Firefighter’s Boise Burn Out Fund.
