EXHIBITIONS:
Through Oct. 7. “Traditional and Contemporary Bhutanese Thanka
Paintings.” Hemingway Western Studies Center, Gallery 2. An opening
reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Sept. 17; free parking will be
available during the reception in the lot between the Liberal Arts Building
and the Special Events Center.
Sept. 19-Oct. 17. “The Hope Series.” Liberal Arts Building, Gallery

Sunday, Sept. 14
Faculty Artist Series: Leslie Moreau, clarinet. Morrison Center

Tuesday, Sept. 16
“Chicago 10.” Student Union Farnsworth Room. 5:30-7 p.m. An
additional screening of the film is from 10:30 a.m.-noon. Sept. 20, in Room
102E of Boise State West. The fifth season of the Diverse Perspectives Film
Series at Boise State University kicks off with a screening of the film
“Chicago 10.” The film juxtaposes scenes of the 1968 Democratic convention
and the trial of the Vietnam War opponents ¬– later known as the “Chicago
Seven” – who protested there. Following the film in Boise, defense attorney
Tom McCabe will speak and lead an audience discussion about free speech,
civil rights then and now, and other issues raised in the film. For more

Aromatherapy Workshop. Student Union Bishop Barnwell Room. 6:30-8:30
p.m. Plants have been a major source of medicine and healing practices for
centuries. Instructor Jennifer Aumeier will educate participants on the
powerful connection between aromatherapy and the applications for a
health-care regimen. Hands-on experience will involve creating a balancing

Latin American Film Series. Student Union Forum. 6:30 p.m. “La Otra
Cnquista/The Other Conquest” directed by Salvador Carrasco. Free.

Faculty Artist Series: Brian Hodges, cello. Morrison Center Recital
Hall. 7:30 p.m. $5 general, $3 seniors, free to students of all ages and

Politics on Planet Idaho. Student Union Jordan Ballroom B and C. 7-9
p.m. “Politics on Planet Idaho” will feature a discussion about environment
trends and will include prominent politicians, activists and

Friday Sept. 19
Global Expressions Series. Special Events Center. 8 p.m. “Dialogues:
Music of the African and Spanish Diaspora” examines musical connections and
their union in the landscape of the Americas. The performance will include
original instrumental compositions and songs for African instruments and
percussion and Spanish guitar, as well as interpretations of works by
African, African-American and Latin-American composers. For more

Alumni Association Presents Alumni Adventure Program in Eugene, Ore.
Emerald Valley Public Golf course. Noon. Boise State University Campus
Recreation and Alumni Association are offering alumni a chance to play a
round of golf before watching the Broncos take on the University of Oregon
Ducks. The Eugene Alumni Adventure is $89, which includes transportation of
clubs from Boise to the course, range balls, cart, a box lunch and prizes.

MFA Reading Series. Student Union Bishop Barnwell Room. 7:30-9 p.m.
Stephanie Strickland is the author of five books of poetry, including “Zone:
Zero,” which was published this year by Boise State’s Ahsahta Press. Two of
her books have won Di Castagnola Prizes from the Poetry Society of America,
and one was selected for the Brittingham Prize. She is a director of the
Electronic Literature Organization and is currently teaching at the

Trey McIntyre Project. Morrison Center. 8 p.m. Join the Morrison
Center as it celebrates its 25th anniversary by presenting the Treasure
Valley’s newest dance company, the Trey McIntyre Project. McIntyre is
internationally renowned and received his dance training at the North
Carolina School of the Arts and Houston Ballet Academy, where he also began

Boise Chamber Music Series: Aulos Ensemble. Morrison Center Recital
Hall. 8 p.m. This baroque ensemble was formed in 1973 by five graduates of
the Julliard School. This special concert will feature the newly-refurbished
Department of Music’s double-manual Flemish-style harpsichord, made in 1986
by Peter Fisk. $25 general, $20 students and seniors. Free Morning Music

Classic Performances Series. Special Events Center. 8 p.m. Individual

Turpen, saxophonist, and Theresa L. Bogard, accompanist, are faculty members
at the University of Wyoming. These award-winning musicians offer superior
entertainment with sophisticated style and complexity. Joining passions for
jazz and classical music, they have garnered many rave reviews for the
mastery of their craft and pure artistry. Their CD “Tableaux” was released

Buying the healthiest and most inexpensive food isn’t always easy.
Understanding this challenge, Health, Wellness and Counseling services has
created a tour to help aid students. Instructor Hilary Horton-Brown will

MFA Reading Series. Knitting Factory. 7:30-9 p.m. Denis Johnson is
the highly acclaimed author of three books of poetry and seven works of
fiction, including the classic “Jesus’ Son,” which was made into a feature
film of the same name. His most recent book, “Tree of Smoke,” was the winner
of the National Book Award. $15 general, $5 students with ID. Proceeds will
benefit the Court Appointed Special Advocate Program, which matches
volunteer advocates with children who are abused, neglected or abandoned,

Thursday, Oct. 18
Galing Galing Festival. Student Union Special Events Center. Doors
open at 5:30 p.m., the show starts at 6 p.m. Galing Galing is an annual
festival that celebrates Filipino culture. This year’s Galing Galing theme
is “Day Off” and will feature stand-up comedy by Dan Gabriel, followed by
music and dancing. Following the dance portion of the evening, the
festivities will continue in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom D with a
buffet of traditional Filipino foods and dance lessons. Galing Galing is
presented by BARCADA, a Boise State student Filipino group, as well as the
