Celebrated Author Denis Johnson to Give Reading at the Knitting Factory on
September 30

Author Denis Johnson will give a reading at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Knitting Factory Concert House at 416 S. 9th St. in downtown Boise. Admission is $15 general and $5 students; all proceeds will benefit the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program. Johnson’s appearance is sponsored by the Boise State University MFA Reading Series and the Knitting Factory.

Johnson is the highly acclaimed author of three books of poetry and seven works of fiction, including the classic “Jesus’ Son,” which was made into a feature film of the same name. His last novel, “Tree of Smoke,” was the winner of the 2007 National Book Award and a Pulitzer Prize finalist.

Johnson received his MFA from the University of Iowa, where he later taught. He is the winner of the Whiting Writer’s Award and the Aga Khan Prize for Fiction. Johnson’s latest work is “Nobody Move,” a serial novel published in the July-October editions of Playboy magazine.

Johnson’s special appearance to benefit CASA is part of the Boise State MFA Reading Series, which brings nationally recognized authors and poets to the Boise State campus and surrounding areas. Past speakers include Rick Bass, Chris Offutt, Rae Armantrout, Cole Swensen, Michael Palmer, Joy Williams, Anthony Doerr, Richard Bausch and Nathaniel Mackey.

CASA is a program that matches volunteers with children who are abused, neglected or abandoned, the majority of whom are younger than 6. For more information about Johnson’s reading, contact Jacob Powers at jacobpowers@boisestate.edu
