Student Affairs at Boise State University Welcomes Two New Directors, One Assistant Director

Kelly Stevens, Charles Varland and Francisco Salinas recently joined the Division of Student Affairs at Boise State University.

Stevens is the new director of Student Activities/Involvement and Leadership, arriving at Boise State from Ithaca College, where she was the associate director for the Center for Student Leadership and Involvement. Stevens received a bachelor's degree in theater from the University of Nevada-Reno and a master’s degree in higher education administration from the University of Texas at Austin. She previously worked as a program adviser and assistant director of the student union at California State University, Fresno, and as a program adviser at the Texas Union Council at the University of Texas at Austin.

Varland is the new assistant director of Student Activities at the Student Union. Varland has a bachelor’s degree in English from Western Washington University and a master's degree in higher education from Iowa State University. He comes to Boise State from Pacific University in Oregon, where he was a resident director and Greek life program coordinator.

Salinas is the new director of Student Diversity and Inclusion at the Student Union. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s in political science from the University of Washington. His most recent position was the director of Student Support Services at Washington State University. He previously was the director of multi-cultural affairs at the University of Idaho, where he also served as the assistant director and multi-cultural outreach coordinator for the Office of New Student Services; the director of multi-cultural student services and a counselor at Skagit Valley College; a multi-cultural specialist at Spokane community college; and an adjunct instructor for Chicano studies and multi-cultural issues at Boise State and Yakima Valley Community College.
