Boise State Hosts 3rd Annual Campus Sustainability Day on October 24

Boise State University proudly flies its blue and orange, but did you know that the campus is also going green?

Boise State will host its third annual Campus Sustainability Day on Oct. 24 to raise awareness about how students, faculty, staff and community can contribute to the university’s ongoing commitment to limit environmental impacts. A full slate of expert speakers, webcasts, presentations and discussions are scheduled throughout the day:

• 9 a.m. – Dr. John Gardner, the university’s new associate vice president for energy research, policy and campus sustainability will speak on Boise State’s sustainability efforts; Boise State Student Union, Lookout Room.

• 10 a.m. – Webcast: Building a Durable Future: Community, the Campus, and Deep Economy, featuring Bill McKibben, author of “The End of Nature and Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the Durable Future”; Student Union, Lookout Room.

• 11:30 a.m. – Pizza lunch, featuring locally grown produce. Free to the first 60 participants. Please RSVP to Les Knight at lesknight@boisestate.edu  before Oct. 19; Student Union, Lookout Room.

• 12 - 1:30 p.m. – Bringing It Home: Boise State’s sustainability updates and brainstorming session. Have you done something to encourage sustainability on campus? Are you willing to work to help with new efforts? Let us know! Student Union, Lookout Room.

• 7:30 p.m. – Film: “Green is the Color of Money,” featuring a discussion with film director Ben Shedd and others; Student Union, Special Events Center.

Participants will get a better understanding of Boise State’s sustainable campus efforts including the creation of Gardner’s position as the associate vice president for energy research, policy and campus; Boise State’s participation in the Presidents Climate Initiative (http://www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org/html/commitment.php); and Boise State’s participation in January’s Focus the Nation Day (http://www.focusthenation.org), a day of teaching and learning on global climate change.
