Gene Harris Jazz Festival Endowment Night Kicks Off New Format, Raises Money for Boise State Scholarships

Endowment Night, one of a series of concerts put on by the Boise State University Gene Harris Jazz Festival, will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Egyptian Theatre. Tickets are $25 general and $10 students through Select-a-Seat or at the door.

Endowment Night will feature Barbara Morrison, a vocalist with more than 20 albums to her credit. Morrison’s work encompasses traditional jazz, blues, gospel and pop, and she has toured around the world. She was featured on the soundtrack to the movie “Hurricane,” as well as “Goin’ Home: A Tribute to Duke Ellington,” and the Johnny Otis CD “Ooo Shoo Be Doo.” She has performed at the Montreaux, Nice, Pori, Carnegie Hall, North Sea, Monterey and Long Beach jazz festivals.

Morrison will be joined by baritone saxophonist Bill Ramsay, saxophonist Bill Anschell, bassist Jeff Rew and drummer Scott Reuser.

Endowment Night is a benefit for the Gene Harris Endowment, founded in 1996 to raise scholarship money for students to study jazz at Boise State University. The endowment has provided scholarships to dozens of students since its creation.

Endowment Night is the first concert of the reformatted Gene Harris Jazz Festival, which will now feature concerts throughout the year. Upcoming events include the Gene Harris Spring Fling, April 3-4, 2008, and Jazz in June, June 19-21, 2008. For more information, visit http://geneharris.org.
