Anthropology Presentation Looks at Reindeer Herding Communities in Siberia

Boise State University anthropology professors John Ziker and Christopher Hill will speak on “Environments, Histories, and Migrations in Siberia from 10,000 y.p.b. to the Present” at 3:15 p.m. Oct. 25 in Room 118 of the Interactive Learning Center. The free lecture is presented by the Anthropology Club and the Archaeological Students Association Colloquium Series. Donations to both clubs will be accepted and refreshments will be provided.

The lecture will provide an overview of the speakers’ summer 2007 fieldwork in reindeer herding and hunting communities in Siberia. Ziker and Hill investigated indigenous ecological relationships and environmental change over the past 10,000 years. Reindeer herding and hunting has been part of a viable economic activity in that region for millennia and provides a good example of a sustainable economy.
