EXHIBITION:
Through Oct. 31. “Courageous Voices.” Student Union Gallery. With
more than 50 examples on display, the artistic expressions of movements for
social change come to life in this dramatic traveling poster exhibition from
the Center for the Study of Political Graphics. This exhibition is on
display in conjunction with Human Rights month. Free. Call 426-4636.

Wednesday, Oct. 24
Campus Sustainability Day. Student Union Building. 9 a.m.-7:30 p.m.
Boise State University proudly flies its blue and orange, but did you know
that the campus is also going green? Campus Sustainability day is a day
dedicated to raising awareness about how students, faculty, staff and
community can contribute to the university’s ongoing commitment to limit
environmental impacts. A full slate of expert speakers includes Dr. John
Gardner, the university’s new associate vice president for energy research,
and filmmaker Ben Shedd, who will lead a discussion after his movie “Green
is the Color of Money.” Also speaking through a Webcast is Bill McKibben,
author of “Nature and Deep Economy: The Wealth of Communities and the
Durable Future.” For the first 60 participants free pizza will be provided
for lunch. For lunch RSVP to Les Knight at

Thursday, Oct. 25
Visiting Artist and Scholar Program with Hillary Mushkin. Student
Union Building Barnwell Room. 6 p.m. Mushkin works in a variety different
mediums. “My works are on paper and in video, animation and installation
explore the ways virtual and physical places are imagined and used,” she
says. “In the past several years I have been particularly interested in how
nostalgic American ideals of comfort and security shape our environment and
society. In my most recent work, the trajectories of the contemporary
American idyll and remote control militarism intersect.” Mushkin’s work has
been exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, England and Germany, among many
others. She is a graduate of UC Irvine and received an MFA from the Rhode

Free Movie, “Dan in Real Life.” Special Events Center. 7 p.m. As most
movies display these days, “Dan in Real Life” reveals a dysfunctional family
and how the main character deals with them. Steven Correl plays Dan;
Juliette Binoche and Dane Cook also appear in this film. This film is rated
PG-13 and is a sneak peak before it is released in the theaters. Free

Upcoming Events Oct. 29- Nov. 15
Monday, Oct. 29
Monster Bash. Student Union Building. 5:30-8 p.m. Celebrate Halloween
with kid-friendly festivities. Featuring games, food, drinks and prizes.
Other activities include a haunted hallway, take-home crafts and pumpkin
decorating. The event is free for Boise State families with student ID and
$5 for Boise community families. (Price includes entire family) Presented by

Tuesday, Oct. 30
Hypnotist C.J. Johnson. Jordan ballroom. 7 p.m. Johnson has
hypnotized Boise State students in the past and is popular in the college
market. In addition to performing at campuses across the United States, he
has also been featured on Showtime, CMT, ABC and other nationally televised
events. His show blends hilarious antics and audience amazement. Presented

Thursday, Nov.1
Fettuccine Forum. Rose Room. 5:30 p.m. Peter Lutze, a professor of
Media Studies at Boise State University, has degrees in filmmaking and law
and a Ph.D. in communication arts. Lutze was a founding member and chair of
the board of TVTV from 1997-2003. His lecture examines the ins and outs of
television when he presents “Boob Tube: News, Sports and Less.” Doors open

Free Movie, “Super Bad.” Jordan Ballroom. 7 p.m. The hit comedy smash
of the summer, this rated R tale highlights the dorky life of two best
friends and their pursuit to be cool, at least in their eyes. Free popcorn

Friday, Nov. 5
Canadian Glaciologist Hester Jiskoot. Engineering Technology Building
Room 110. 7-8:30 p.m. Jiskoot will speak on environmental sustainability and
the effects of climate change on glaciers. Jiskoot is an assistant professor
of physical geography at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada,
with a background in physical geography and glaciology. She also has studied
how different cultures deal with environmental sustainability and their
perspective on the subject. Free. For more information call 426-3275.

Award-winning Author Charles Baxter. Multipurpose Classroom Building
Room 101. 7:30 p.m. Charles Baxter, author of four novels, “Saul and Patsy,”
“Shadow Play,” “First Light,” and “Feast of Love,” a National Book award
finalist that was recently adapted into a film. His fifth novel, “Soul
Thief,” is due out in February from Pantheon Books. Baxter is also the
author of four short-story collections, has released three collections of
poetry and a book of essays, and has edited or co-edited a number of books.

‘Tunnel of Oppression.’ Student Union Hatch Ballroom. 10 a.m.
Returning to Boise State University for the third year, the Tunnel is a
visual, theatrical and interactive production that helps raise consciousness
about various forms of oppression. Visitors pass through a series of
dramatic vignettes and learn about the many forms of discrimination. This
year’s theme is “Question Everything,” directed by Steven Wells of Boise
State’s Gateway Center. After the presentations there will be discussions
about the program’s content and how to get involved in the community.

week, Student Programs Board is showing Michel Moore’s “Sicko.” This
documentary brings to light our heath-care system and its consequences.
Michel Moore as always adds his sarcastic wit to, ease the journey of
exploring our health-care system, while highlighting other countries’

For the 10th time in the last year 11 years, Boise State University has
set an all-time record for Idaho higher education institutions with an
enrollment of 19,540 – an overall increase of 3.5 percent. A record freshman
class of 2,280 students is also the most academically talented group ever to
enter Boise State, including 12 National Merit finalists.
