Boise State Offers Construction Management Certificate Program

Boise State’s Center for Professional Development and Construction Management Department are now offering an intensive program that allows participants to earn a Construction Management Certificate by March 2009. The program is comprehensive, covering the construction process from pre-planning through project closeout.

Complementing an already thriving degree program, this non-credit certificate program is designed for construction professionals who want focused training in construction management but do not intend to get a degree. The construction industry has been requesting such a program for years, according to organizers.

The 96 hours of intensive training will be delivered during the winter construction slowdown, on one Friday and Saturday each month. The schedule makes it feasible for participants outside the Treasure Valley to attend. The course will kick off on Friday, Oct. 17, and wrap-up on Saturday, March 14, 2009.

The course will cover:

• Planning and Scheduling
• Managing Time, Money, People and Resources
• Cost Controls, Document Control, Project Buyout
• Claims and Dispute Avoidance
• Contracts, Delivery and Project Completion
• Risk, Liability, Safety, Codes and Compliance
• Problem Solving and Leadership Skills

Construction is rapidly becoming one of the most difficult and complex businesses to manage. Today’s construction projects can require thousands of decisions and individual components. As a result, there is a demand for construction professionals who can complete projects on time, within budget and without incurring liability.

The course is designed to benefit working professionals involved in all aspects of the construction industry who desire a better understanding of today's complex construction process. They include: contractors, construction supervisors and project managers, estimators, code and safety officials, architecture and engineering professionals, project owners and representatives, construction insurers and financers, developers, government personnel and those who work in or want to enter the construction profession.
