Energy and Environment Take Center Stage in Second "Election 2008: Know the Issues" Forum on Monday

Energy and the environment are the focus of the second “Election 2008: Know the Issues” expert panel convened by Boise State University’s College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs in the run-up to the Nov. 3 general election.

The three-person panel will meet 12:40-1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in the Boise State Student Union Building’s Hatch Ballroom and delve into energy policy, economic approaches to energy and related environmental questions and natural resource issues related to energy. The forum is free and open to the public and will include a question and answer segment with the audience.

Moderated by John Freemuth, a Boise State professor of public policy and administration and political science, the panel will include Sian Mooney, an associate professor of economics at Boise State, and Dave Soulen, an assistant professor of public policy and administration.

The three-panel series focuses on issues identified by the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs faculty members as central to the election: immigration, energy, the environment and the economy.

“We believe these are the issues at the center of Idahoan’s concerns,” said Stephanie Witt, chair of Boise State’s Department of Public Policy & Administration and director of its Public Policy Center. “Our hope is that this will help the Boise State community make the most informed choice possible as voters.”

The economic panel will be held 12:40-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 in the Boise State Student Union Building’s Farnsworth Room. More information about the Oct. 28 panel will be released at a later date. The immigration panel was held Oct. 3.

For more information about Friday’s panel call Freemuth at 208-426-3931.
