Chris Meyers-Zacharias Honored with Statewide Award
The Idaho Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and the Division for Early
Childhood (DEC) honored Chris Meyers-Zacharias of the Boise State University
Children’s Center with the 2008 Excellence in Early Childhood Award. The
award was presented at a conference in Sun Valley on Oct. 2.
Remae Murdock, past president of the Idaho DEC Board, noted
Meyers-Zacharias’s work in the looping program, which allows children to
remain with a teacher for three years.
“She is the living example of planning and implementing enriching
activities, and completing on-going authentic assessments in the classroom,”
Murdock said. “She radiates professionalism in the field of early childhood
with children, with her peers and with parents. She is a well-educated
compassionate caregiver who provides a high quality learning environment for
all students in her care.”
“Chris exemplifies what all of our staff strive for each day – that each
child in our program is getting the best care and early learning experiences
possible” said Hob Boazman, director of the Children’s Center. “Our families
are so fortunate to have Chris as a teacher here at the Children’s Center.
This is a wonderful example of two programs working together for the best
interests of young children.”
The CEC is the largest international professional organization dedicated to
improving the educational success of individuals with disabilities and/or
gifts and talents. It advocates for appropriate governmental policies, sets
professional standards, provides professional development, advocates for
individuals with exceptionalities and helps professionals obtain conditions
and resources necessary for effective professional practice.
The Division for Early Childhood (DEC) promotes policies and advances
evidence-based practices that support families and enhance the optimal
development of young children who have or are at risk for developmental
delays and disabilities.
