News Release EVENT NEWS / October 24, 2008 Invisible Children National Tour Stops at Boise State, Will Feature Speech by Current Student and Refugee Acii Nancy The Invisible Children National Tour, which helps raise awareness about the decades-long war in northern Uganda, will give a presentation at 6 p.m. Oct. 30 in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom on the Boise State University campus. The group’s presentation will include a special talk by Acii Nancy, a Ugandan student and “invisible child” who was selected for a four-year Boise State scholarship and is in the middle of her first semester. Professor Phil Kelly from the College of Education initiated the scholarship after learning about the invisible children and spending part of his summer teaching refugees. Nancy is the first recipient of the scholarship; she made the long journey from northern Uganda to Boise in late summer, just in time for classes. Thousands of children have been displaced or forced to enlist as soldiers during Uganda’s long war. The Invisible Children organization’s mission is to improve the quality of life for war-affected children by providing access to quality education, enhanced learning environments and innovative economic opportunities for the community. The group travels extensively throughout the United States and other countries.
