Fisher Collection to Idaho Center for the Book
Idaho Statesman reporter Tim Woodward has donated the materials he collected

the Idaho Center for the Book. The Idaho Center for the Book, housed at
Boise State University, helps to preserve and publicize the bibliophilic
heritage of the Gem State.

Woodward’s donation includes numerous booklets, articles, reviews,
medical records, letters and notes about Vardis Fisher, as well as the
notebooks Woodward kept while writing “Tiger on the Road.” The collection
also will include Woodward’s typescript versions of the book, an interview
on cassette and 17 black-and-white and color photos.
Woodward’s donation joins an extensive selection of major works by Vardis
Fisher, made possible by the Vardis and Opal Fisher estate and the Fisher
children. Fisher was a native Idahoan who wrote extensively, including a
prize-winning study of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,
“Children of God”; “Mountain Man,” which was later made into the film
“Jeremiah Johnson” and the acclaimed “Dark Bridwell.”
“Woodward's donation provides Fisher researchers and fans access to rare
photographs, audio interviews and correspondence,” said Tom Trusky, director
of the Idaho Center for the Book. “As well, Woodward's own notes and drafts
will permit writers and scholars a rare opportunity to see a biographer at
work.”
The Idaho Center for the Book was designated by the Library of Congress and
encourages and promotes reading, writing, making, disseminating and
collecting books, as well as publicizing the bibliographic heritage of
Idaho. For more information, visit
