News Release CENTER NEWS RELEASE / October 30, 2008 Boise State University and University of Idaho Team Up On Introduction to Green Building Course Boise State University’s Center for Professional Development and University of Idaho have teamed up to offer an Introduction to Green Building training course. The 30 hours of training will be delivered during the winter construction slowdown, one Saturday each month for four months. The schedule makes it feasible for participants outside the Treasure Valley to attend. The course will kick off on Saturday, January 24, 2009, and wrap up on Saturday, April 11, 2009. The course provides an overview of green building concepts, including rating systems such as LEED and GreenGlobes, current case studies, the economics of green building, benefits and barriers, and sources of information. The course will cover: • Reasons for building green • Benefits of green building • Green building rating systems • Sustainable site development • Water efficiency • Human health and comfort • Energy efficiency • The green building team • Materials and methods • Costs: Capital, Operation and Maintenance, Life Cycle • Integrated design process The course is geared for the planner, architect, landscape architect, engineer, developer or contractor interested in the implementation of sustainable building tools and strategies. It is also recommended for professionals moving into fields that require knowledge of green building or sustainable design, or anyone who recognizes the emerging importance of sustainable design and its impact on daily life.
