Teacher-Astronaut Barbara Morgan Visits Boise State University Dec. 10 for Free Lecture

Idaho elementary school teacher and astronaut Barbara Morgan, who flew on the Space Shuttle Endeavor last summer, will visit Boise State University Dec. 10 as part of a welcome home event organized by the Discovery Center of Idaho. Boise State is a sponsor of a free public lecture that Morgan will deliver at 6:30 p.m. in the Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts.

Admission is free of charge, but tickets are required. Tickets are only available at the Discovery Center during regular business hours (closed on Mondays). Tickets must be picked up in person with a maximum of four tickets per adult. No ticket reservations will be accepted. The Discovery Center is located at 131 Myrtle Street.

Morgan participated in the Teacher in Space program as the backup to Christa McAuliffe for the ill-fated mission of Space Shuttle Challenger. She later trained as a Mission Specialist and flew aboard Endeavor last August in an educator-astronaut mission. From 1975-78, Morgan taught remedial reading and math and second grade at McCall-Donnelly Elementary School. After a year in Ecuador, she taught second, third, and fourth grades at McCall-Donnelly from 1979-98.

An entire schedule of her Idaho visit is available at http://scidaho.org/Discover/SpaceDays.php.
