The Society of Illustrators, based in New York, holds one of the top illustration exhibitions in the country and is highly competitive. Carman has been invited to the gala awards presentation on March 28 in New York.

Carman is a professor of illustration and drawing. His work has been exhibited extensively around the country, and is regularly featured at the Basement Gallery in Boise. His illustrations have appeared on CD covers, in magazines and on numerous posters. Carman is also the author and illustrator of a children’s book, “What’s That Noise?,” which was published by Random House Books.

“Bill is an amazing artist and a passionate educator,” said Department of Art chair Richard Young. “He is certainly deserving of this honor.”

The Society of Illustrators was founded in 1901, and early society members included Maxfield Parish, N.C. Wyeth, Charles Dana Gibson and Fredric Remington. Throughout the years, members of the society have produced iconic images such as the “I Want You for the U.S. Army” poster made famous during World War I.
