News Release BOISE STATE NEWS RELEASE / December 4, 2008 Boise State Celebrates Winter Commencement Dec. 19 Boise State University’s Winter Commencement will honor August and December graduates with a traditional ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19 in the Taco Bell Arena. No tickets are required, and spectators are welcome to find seats when doors open at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will include a processional and recessional, individual recognition of graduates, and the hooding of doctoral candidates. For those who cannot attend in person, Boise State will broadcast the ceremony live online at http://www.boisestate.edu/provost/commencement/broadcast.shtml. While 600 graduates are expected to participate, 1350 are eligible for 1420 degrees/certificates, and 249 are eligible for honors: 156 cum laude, 65 magna cum laude and 28 summa cum laude. The student speaker is Natalie Griffin, who is earning a bachelor of science degree in health promotion. A recipient of the U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award, Griffin is known for her dedication on the soccer field, in the classroom and in the community. In addition to maintaining exemplary grades, she devoted at least 20 hours a week to her sport, volunteered for numerous nonprofits and completed several internships devoted to health promotion. The Alumni Association will host a celebration for graduates, friends and families before the ceremony from 8-9:30 a.m. in the Bronco Gym, which is in the Kinesiology Building across from the Taco Bell Arena. The celebration will feature complimentary breakfast and a last chance prep station, and a professional photographer will be available to take photos. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Student Union Building’s Jordan Ballroom. Each college will have a designated area where graduates can meet family and friends after the ceremony. Parking is free. Due to limited handicapped parking, those who cannot walk to the arena can be dropped at entrances 1 and 2, where volunteers can assist them while their families find parking.
