OBOIST JEANNE BELFY DEBUTS NEW WORK AT FACULTY ARTIST SERIES

Oboist Jeanne Belfy will premiere a new work at a Faculty Artist Series concert at Boise State University at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Belfy, a Boise State music professor, will be joined by pianist Gerald Schroeder, Boise State professor emeritus of music.

They will premiere a piece written for Belfy by Robert Fruehwald, chair of the department of music at Southeast Missouri State University. "A Farmington Divertimento on Melodies by Anthony Philip Heinrich" for oboe and piano, consists of three movements based on themes originally written by Heinrich (1781-1861), who is known as "the Beethoven of Kentucky." The piece is tonal, rhythmically complex and repetitive in a postmodern style.

Belfy and Schroeder will also perform a newly published oboe concerto by G. P. Telemann and several character pieces from the 19th century. Percussionist Blake Tyson will make a special guest appearance with Belfy and viola professor Linda Kline Lamar to perform Tyson’s new, original composition for marimba, oboe and viola.

Admission is $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students and Boise State faculty and staff. For information, call 426-3980.
