AWARD-WINNING PIANIST TO PERFORM AT MORRISON CENTER RECITAL HALL

Thomas Otten, an award-winning pianist who has appeared in prestigious concert halls throughout the United States and Europe, will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Otten's program will feature selections by Haydn, Schumann and Ravel.

Otten is an assistant professor of piano at Kent State University in Ohio, where he is coordinator of the piano division. He has appeared in recital and as an orchestral soloist in such venues as the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Munich Gasteig, the German Embassy and the Chautauqua and Brevard summer festivals. Otten’s many awards include first prize in the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition, the Palm Beach Invitational International Competition, the International Masters Piano Competition and others.

Otten holds doctorate and master’s degrees in music from the University of Southern California and a bachelor of music degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. He is the only person to have twice received USC’s Podolsky Prize, awarded annually to an outstanding keyboard performer.

Otten’s recital is presented by the Boise State music department. Tickets are $5 general, $3 seniors and free to students and Boise State faculty and staff. For information, call 326-3980.
