TREASURE VALLEY CONCERT BAND PRESENTS FREE CONCERTS MARCH 7 & 14
The Treasure Valley Concert Band will salute award-winning composers of the past and present at performances on March 7 and 14. The band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Jewett Auditorium at Albertson College of Idaho in Caldwell, and at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Capital High School Auditorium in Boise.
The theme of the concerts is "Stars and Spotlight." The Treasure Valley Concert Band, under the direction of Boise State University music professor Marcellus Brown, will play selections of contemporary stars in the field of music composition, and will also spotlight great composers of the past.
The program will feature a variety of musical styles. Included will be a transcription of Maurice Ravel's "Pavane;" Eric Ewazen's "Celtic Hymns and Dances," which is reminiscent of medieval and Renaissance themes; Charles Ives' "Old Home Days," in which there are strains of the familiar nursery rhyme "London Bridge," "The Girl I left Behind Me" and "Auld Lang Syne;" and David Maslanka's "Morning Star," which journeys through the seasons of life.
At the March 14 concert, the Capital High School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Marty Worthington, will perform several pieces. Also, the seniors from the band will join with the Treasure Valley Concert Band to perform "Glory to the Yankee Navy" march.
Admission for both concerts is free. For information, call the Boise State music department at 426-3980 or call 321-2719.
