BOISE STATE ALUMNI CENTER HONORS DISTINGUISHED FRESHMEN
The Boise State University Alumni Association will honor about 60 Distinguished Freshman awardees at a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 25 in the Student Union Barnwell Room. The Distinguished Freshman scholarship was started two years ago as a way to encourage high-achieving students to stay in Idaho. Students are chosen based on grades and community service. So far, the program has awarded about $25,000 in scholarships.
As part of the program, the Alumni Association encourages the students to learn about the association and get involved in its student activities committee as well as a mentor program slated to kick off next fall.
The Alumni Association is in the process of converting a former eye clinic across from Bronco Stadium into a new alumni center. When completed, it will be large enough to host activities like the luncheon as well as receptions and pre-game parties. An additional $1 million is still needed to complete the project, which will include a prominent place to recognize donors along with an academic hall of fame. The center, located at University Drive and Grant Avenue, is projected to open in early March.
Dawn Kramer Hall, interim alumni director, said she hopes the center will raise awareness in the community of what the Alumni Association does and help attract scholarship donations. To donate to the center or the association, contact Kramer Hall at (208) 426-1959.
