KRISTIN KORB AND BOBBY SHEW FEATURED AT JAZZ SATURDAYS PROGRAM
Jazz bassist and vocalist Kristin Korb and trumpeter Bobby Shew will join the Jazz Saturdays faculty for workshops and a concert on Saturday, Feb. 10, in the Morrison Center Recital Hall. Workshops will be held at 1 p.m. and a concert will be at 7:30 p.m.
Korb has been touring nationally in support of her debut CD, "The Ray Brown Trio — Introducing Kristin Korb." She also leads her own ensemble. Originally from Montana, Korb now lives in the San Diego area where she teaches at Grossmont College. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Montana College and a master’s degree from the University of California at San Diego.
Shew, an internationally recognized jazz trumpeter, devotes much of his time to jazz education, in additional to touring and performing internationally. Shew is well known for playing in jazz bands and big bands with legends such as Della Reese, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, Art Pepper, Bud Shank and many more. Shew has received accolades for his own recordings, including a Grammy nomination for his 1980 album "Outstanding in His Field" and a Jazz Album of the Year award in 1983 for "Heavy Company."
In addition to Shew and Korb, faculty members for the workshops will include Brent Jensen, sax, Chuck Smith, piano, and Damien Bard, drums. The workshops and concert are free. Musicians of all ages and abilities are welcome.
