BOISE STATE CM GRADUATE TAKES SECOND PLACE IN COMPETITION
Greg Baisch, a recent construction management (CM) graduate from Boise State University, received a second-place award in the 2000 Concrete Projects Competition sponsored by the American Concrete Institute (ACI).
Baisch, who earned his bachelor’s degree from Boise State in December, received the runner-up honor in recognition of a Construction Education Alliance Project System (CEAPS) “ball wall” project that he managed last spring. Baisch is from Seattle and attended Bishop O'Dea High School.
The project featured a 20-foot long, 8-foot high, 8-inch thick concrete wall built by Baisch and several fellow CM students on the playground of Boise’s Liberty Elementary School.
CEAPS (pronounced “keeps”) is designed to have CM students work with elementary students to give the youngsters an understanding of the math, science and management that goes into completing a construction project.
“Construction makes up about 10 percent of our economy, and many students aren’t aware of this profession,” said Boise State CM professor and CEAPS program sponsor Charles Gains. “The CEAPS projects increase awareness and provide important benefits to the elementary schools.”
The Concrete Projects Competition winners are selected annually by ACI’s Student Activities Committee. The contest is open to construction management students in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Baisch received $200 and a one-year membership with ACI. His name will be published in the institute’s newsletter.
