BOISE STATE STUDENT UNION GETS INSPIRED WITH WORDS

“Inspired By Words,” an exhibition featuring a group of artists who base their work on pre-selected words, will be shown April 9-May 18 in the Student Union Gallery at Boise State University. A reception will be held 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday, April 20; refreshments will be served. The exhibition is sponsored by Boise State Student Union and Activities.

The group of nine artists began meeting monthly in 1998 to select words and phrases to inspire their individual efforts. Words and phrases that were typical starting points included “please remain calm,” “sanctuary,” “mystery,” “macabre,” “rocket science,” “thumb” and “seduction.” The exhibition will display selected works from 1998 to present.

Artists and their media will include: Linda Bowden, photography and assemblage; Madonna Burchfield, pottery and watercolor; Edith Hope, abstract painting, assemblage and found objects; Sandy Marostica, oil/acrylic painting and photography; Linda McDougall, photography, painting and book arts; Barbara Merrill, incised gourds, assemblage and found objects; Leslie Metzger, incised gourds, paintings, assemblage and performance art; Carl Rowe, painting, performance art and essays; and Ardith Tate, abstract painting and printing processes.

Admission for the exhibition and the reception is free and open to the public. The Student Union Gallery, open 7 a.m.-11 p.m. daily, is located on the upper level of the Student Union. For more information, call 426-4636.
