Maynard has led the 19-student ensemble for 11 years. During that time they have performed with jazz artists including Red Rodney, Chris Vadala, Bunky Green, Eric Marienthal, Richie Cole, Jon Faddis and Slide Hampton. The Boise State Jazz Ensemble has competed at the University of Nevada-Reno Jazz Festival three times, placing fourth in 1997 and third last year. The band will record their first CD later this spring.
